Project Brief
Key Issues
Lack of Real-Time Connection: Users wanted to feel closer to artists during live moments.
Limited Artist Insight: Users wanted to learn more about artists while listening.
Challenges
Integrating with an Existing Product: Designing a new feature that fits naturally into Spotify's established app.
Limited Design Access: No access to Spotify's design system or brand guidelines.
Solutions
Live Jam Sessions: Real-time concerts with the ability to save songs to playlists
Interactions: Likes and comments during live streams
Artist Insights: Learn more about the artist during the session
Research Methods
Competitor Analysis
Analyzed competitors like Instagram Live and YouTube Live to identify opportunities for Spotify.
Secondary Research
• 67% of live music viewers prefer interactive features like comments and reactions.
• 45% want to learn more about favorite artists.
Market Trends
Entertainment and streaming trends confirmed demand for live music features.
User Interviews
Method
I interviewed 5 participants about their music-listening habits and what features they'd like to see.
Findings
Real-Time Concerts: Users want to feel closer to artists through live experiences.
Artist Insight: Users want more insight into the artists they listen to.
Live Engagement: Users want to interact with the artist and other listeners.
Problem
Users want a deeper connection to artists, but Spotify offers no way to experience that in real time.

• How might we help users feel more connected to artists in real time?
• How might we give users more insight into the artists they listen to?
• How might we help users interact with other listeners?

Low-fidelity Wireframes
Designed initial screens for discovering live performances, saving songs, and interacting with artists and other listeners.
High-fidelity Wireframes
Refined visuals, typography, and interactive elements.
Method
I tested the hi-fi wireframes with 5 participants to see how easily they could navigate live streams.
Findings
• Confusion with play icons on the live stream gallery page.
• Cluttered, unclear exit option at the top of the selected live stream page.
• Unaware they could swipe up to view more artist info.
Iterations
Live Jam Sessions Screen
Removed the play icon and added a "Live" red tag to each stream preview.
Live Screen
Moved 'Add to Playlist' to the bottom and added a scroll option for more artist info, fun facts, and similar songs.
Prototyping

Smooth scrolling, sticky navigation, and a jump scroll.

Reflection
This project taught me how to introduce a new feature while maintaining familiar patterns and expectations within an existing product.
Next Steps
Continue testing to ensure new features feel like a natural part of the app, not disruptive.
